What's new in Crew 4.0

Every screen in a trip pushes and pops like the rest of your phone, the trip updates while you're looking at it, and invite links stopped expiring.

The big one, and the one that's hard to describe until you've felt it missing.

Every screen inside a trip is a proper push now. Itinerary, lodging, transport, expenses, packing, games, chat, all of it. They slide in from the right, they slide back out, and swiping from the left edge takes you back the way it does everywhere else on your phone.

Before this the app swapped screens underneath you. Nothing was broken and everything felt slightly wrong, in a way people kept reporting as different unrelated bugs.

The trip updates while you're looking at it

Someone adds a dinner, moves a booking, pays for something, joins the crew, and it appears. You don't pull to refresh and you don't reopen the trip.

Group planning is the one case where a stale screen is actively harmful. Two people booking the same restaurant because one of them was looking at a page from twenty minutes ago is the exact thing this app is meant to stop.

They used to die after a week. A week is shorter than anyone plans a trip in, so the most common way to fail to join a Crew was to get the link on a Tuesday and open it the following Friday.

Chat

Photos send straight away rather than sitting there. The keyboard stays where you put it instead of shoving the conversation around. Long press a message to react, and long press again to see who left what.

Polls live in the chat too. Make one and it lands in the conversation, everyone votes without going anywhere, and you can open it to see who picked what.

The bits you'd only notice if they were wrong

The trip cover is a square again, so a landscape photo stops being zoomed into. The crew's faces load in one go instead of popping in one at a time, and you're first in the list rather than sorted alphabetically among everyone else. Your own profile doesn't sit lower on the screen than everybody else's.

And the itinerary explains what it needs when a trip doesn't have dates yet, rather than being a dead end.
